In May 2024, Operation Nightingale returned, for the fourth year, to Aldbourne in Wiltshire - home to the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st US Airborne Division from September 1943. Once again, our aim was to further investigate traces of both Easy and Fox Company who were based in the village prior to D-Day and Operation Market Garden. This year, as in 2023, we had a blended team of British and American Military Veterans, and serving personnel from both sides of the pond, as well as a host of technical experts, historians and volunteers. Our primary target for excavation was a hut believed to be that of Fox Company, and can be seen in both the period aerial photograph, and the following one featuring Carwood Lipton from Easy Company in the foreground.
